The style's founding accident, promoted to law. In an early round a model was asked for festival banners cut from ledger paper and instead hung whole ledger pages from clotheslines, like washing. The misreading was better than the instruction: debts aired in public, household linen that is also a household's records. The crowd below looks up at its own bookkeeping. Papel picado — the Mexican festival craft of cutting paper into lace — runs through this whole series; here the lace is cut through ruled columns.

accident: a model first hung ledgers like washing in round 1; the motif was promoted, not designed.
